Hosted by Physiotherapist Katy Kettner, this event is about creating the space for you to explore yourself, your relationship to yourself and others - THROUGH MOVEMENT.

The Loom is about cultivating a space where you can step outside of norms, expectation, and ways of being in a body that is prescribed and structured.

During this event we will explore and play with the medicine of free dance / authentic movement (some call it ecstatic dance), then integrate our experiences with writing and group connection.

The Loom is about a journey into the unexplored and unexpressed places inside us. Not only will this space be a great opportunity to shake some stress loose. But also allows for authentic and novel experiences of ourselves, and a chance to talk and integrate these experiences with others.

'Exactly what I needed! What an incredible experience, and so grateful to you for being an amazing space holder.' - Participant

If you have never done free dance or embodied movement before, it is an opportunity to move your body in conversation with the music in whatever way your body would like to move. It can be incredibly liberating to allow our body to lead the way. As well as having fun along the way. In free dance, there are no rules or steps to follow...just your inner knowing. Whether you are lying down listening to the music, unleashing your inner wild, or dancing your inner critic back and forth…it is all welcome. The idea is to tune into and discover your bodily wisdom.

It can also be confronting and uneasy at first for some people to move their bodies in authentic and unstructured ways. But I believe if we are able to witness and stay with the discomfort (maybe even dance or express the unease), we can often discover a profound freedom and sense of self- that can ripple into all aspects of our lives.

'Thank you so much for yesterday. It was an experience that was hard to put into words it was so intuitive.' - Participant.

I believe when we can make sense of our inner experiences, feelings and parts, and allow them to be free…we untangle ourselves from limited stories and self-beliefs and re-weave a truer tapestry…drenched in a well of unapologetic realness. All within the held container of the Loom. As we journey together and have some fun as a group, perhaps we can weave together something truly breath-taking into the web of humanity.

From a research perspective, dance is one of the most underrated modalities for health and vitality. It's an ancient practice that has stood the test of time. It has come out as one of the strongest modalities for treating stress and trauma, and most effective evidence-based tool for depression. It is a powerful resource needed now more than ever!

Much of 2024 I had weekly Neuro rehab following a spinal cord injury and surgery. It was all about learning to reduce falls, be safe in the kitchen, improve continence etc. My body felt reduced to functions that were really basic and mechanical. I was almost becoming afraid to move in ways that aren't mechanical!
Thank you so much. I can't find the words to express how much I valued being able to move in that way, to the music and with others. Thank you for creating that safe space.
